Madison County High School student and star football player Jacobbi McDaniel is thankful to be alive following a car accident scare on January 4, according to Brian Landman of the Tampa Bay website. The standout defensive tackle says he remembers the horrifying details of the evening auto accident that occurred on the way home from a San Antonio, Texas, scouting combine: he couldn’t hear the noises around him very well, he could see blood around him (even though it was dark), and felt more blood dripping down his face as he tried to process what had just happened. According to Landman, McDaniel was just a month shy of giving an oral commitment to Florida State for the 2009 class when the crash occurred in Louisiana. The police report states that the left rear tire of a Toyota Camry blew out shortly after 10:00 p.m., causing the driver to lose control and collide with the 2007 Chevrolet Venture minivan in which McDaniel was riding. The minivan hit a tree after spinning and rolling upon impact. Following the accident and realizing that he “could have been gone,” Jacobbi McDaniel committed early to Florida State University (FSU) and encouraged fellow star players from his high school to join the team. He wants to “be a leader for young kids.”
Although the east Tallahassee resident’s life was spared, some auto accident victims do not have the same fate. McDaniel did receive several stitches, but others have sustained more serious injuries in car accidents.
