How Do I Apply For Social Security Benefits For My High Blood Pressure?

You can apply for Florida Social Security disability benefits for your high blood pressure on your own by going online at www.ssa.gov or by calling your local Social Security Administration office, via telephone at (800) 772-1213. After you fill out a disability application, you will be notified via the mail of your claim number and your claims examiner’s contact information. The Social Security Administration (SSA) may also request additional paperwork to be filled out at this time.

During this time, the claims examiner will request your medical records from your doctors and will analyze your condition in order to determine what type of work you may be able to perform and what your limitations are due to your condition, age, education level and previous work experience.  In the weeks to follow, you will be contacted for a telephone interview. Additionally, you will most likely be instructed to go through a medical examination.  You will then be classified as either disabled or not disabled.

The decision process can take months. If your claim for Social Security benefits in Florida has been denied, you can appeal the decision. However, the Request for Reconsideration will need to be done quickly.

You may want to engage a lawyer who can make sure your paperwork is filled out correctly, help you appeal the decision, and request a hearing. To be approved for Social Security benefits due to hypertension, a skilled South Florida Social Security disability attorney will be needed.
