Fort Lauderdale Hit And Run Driver Kills 5-year-Old Girl

Police are looking for a hit and run driver that fled the scene after hitting and killing a 5-year-old girl.  The little girl was riding her Big Wheel bike Sunday evening in front of her home in Fort Lauderdale.  A white cargo van struck the little girl and killed her.

Detective DeAnna Garcia a police spokeswoman said the driver of the large white cargo van fled the scene after killing the girl. The accident happened at 169 NW 67th St., in Fort Lauderdale, she said.

The little girl’s mother loaded her daughter into her car in an attempt to drive her to a hospital.  She pulled over near Sunrise Boulevard and Interstate 95 where she called fire rescue.   When the paramedics arrived the girl was unresponsive.  They transported her to Broward General Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Garcia said the police are searching for the driver of the white van.  The license plate begins with “F5”.  The driver was described as a heavy-set male with curly brown hair and between 20 – 25 years old.  He was wearing a black t-shirt with white lettering.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the hit and run accident is asked to call investigator Goedke at: 954-828-5754.
